Day 42 - In the land where cupcakes rule supreme

Well, I must start out with an apology. I'm sorry for not posting for so long.
As you may know, my wife came to visit me here in Washington DC. She left tuesday, and I have been a slacker since. I hope you forgive me.

Laura arrived on Friday night and we ran and ran until she left Tuesday afternoon. It was so so good to have her here and just be with her. We did a lot of stuff. I took some pictures, but not a ton. She brought her fancy camera and took some good pics with that.

I won't spend too much time talking about each pic, just try to soak them in...

It had been so long since I had seen Laura, I made a sign so she would know who to look for in the airport.

Saturday was our big day. We had two tours of the White House. The one in the morning was an East Wing tour. This is the tour that the general public can schedule and take. It was awesome. Obviously, no cameras are allowed inside the White House, but we snapped a few outside the place.

I love this girl

Dark, but neat.

She's leaning on the Washington Monument... ok ok it looks horrible

Loving at WWII monument

Laura's sore feet at the WWII monument. We walked so so so much everyday. We were so sore and tired at the end of everyday.

We went to lunch at the fish market. I am a BIG seafood fan, so this was so so cool to see. It was very authentic. It was on a dock, raw fish everywhere, throwing seafood, lots of ice and stinky fish.

Yum

I got some shrimp and fries and Laura got a crab cake sandwich. It was so so good. Of course as fresh as you can get.

Cheeser

Our view at lunch. We stood at a bar thing. Very primitive and kinda nasty, but it made the experience that much more enjoyable.

In the afternoon, we took a West Wing tour. This is only given if you are with a White House staffer. My supervisor took us. It was so awesome. We saw just about everything. In fact, we stood outside of the oval office for about 20 minutes just admiring. The President was not around, which was probably a good thing because then we wouldn't have been able to see as much.

West Wing

That night we went to a game. Nats and Pirates. It was a really good game, Nats won and there were some real good fireworks after.

In a museum, bag made of keys from a computer keyboard

This is where we were to see the fourth of July fireworks. So many people.

Our view. It was the best.

Happy Birthday America!

On Tuesday, Laura's flight left at 5:30 pm, so we decided to go to the temple in the morning. Please note that we do not have a car, so we took public transportation (subway and bus) and we walked a very long while to arrive at the temple. It took us about 2 hours to get there. It was well worth it. This is my new favorite temple. It is in the coolest location ever. Very secluded, surrounded by thick forrest, and it is huge!

So so awesome.

cute.
After our time at the temple we made our way back and ate along the way at an old diner. It was a great way to end our time together.

I dropped Laura off at the airport, which is literally 3 minutes from where I live. It was hard to see her go, in fact we both got a lot more emotional saying goodbye than when we said goodbye initially.
As I was watching her plane leave a nasty bug landed and wanted to say goodbye too. (That's Laura's plane in the background)

A few days after Laura left, it was my birthday. I tried my best to keep it low key. In fact none of my roommates even knew it was my b-day. Laura took care of me. She had some cupcakes delivered. (red velvet, my fav)
She also had hid some presents in my room while she was here and then on my birthday she told me to look in places and I found presents. It was very generous of her. I love her so much.

Cupcake.
For some reason, in Washington DC, cupcakes are a big deal. There are a lot of cupcake shops all over and people are always raving about the cupcakes.
I think I am joining the revolution.
I love cupcakes.

Yesterday (saturday) I decided to take an easy day and relax and stay put. I spent a good chunk of the day by the pool relaxing and reading my book. It was wonderful.

Well, my time in DC is about half up. It has gone by so fast. I have enjoyed it so much and I look forward to finishing strong. It was so great to have Laura here. Her visit has re-energized me.

I go home (to Utah) in two weeks for my sister Shersti's wedding. I will only be there for a couple of days, but I am really looking forward to it.

Well, I will post more soon!

Enjoy your day!
